Obituary: John Middleton Murry
|
JOHN Middleton Murry, a science fiction writer whose most
critically acclaimed works were written under the pseudonym of
Richard Cowper, has died after a stroke. He was 75.
The son of the literary critic, John Middleton Murry, he wrote
more than 20 novels and several collections of short stories.
Born in Dorset, his passion for writing came in the late 1930s
while at Rencomb College, near Cirencester.
After service in the Royal Navy at the end of the Second World,
and two years as a student of English at Brasenose College, Oxford,
he became a teacher in 1950.
