Fletcher award for 'Scots Hardy'

THE novelist Robin Jenkins was yesterday honoured by the Saltire Society for his life-time contribution to Scottish literature.

Mr Jenkins, 89, who is regarded by many as Scotland's greatest living writer, was presented with the Andrew Fletcher of Saltoun Award at his house near Dunoon. The award, made annually for services to Scottish life and culture, took the form this year of a portrait by the artist Alexander Moffat.
