Controversial extension to National Library given go-ahead by councillors

MAJOR plans for a three-storey extension to the National Library of Scotland have been approved by councillors in Edinburgh.

The glass-fronted extension will boost storage capacity in the library by a quarter, which adds about 5,000 items every week to its archive.

But heritage groups have expressed concern about the alterations to the B-listed building, on George IV Bridge.
