Controversial extension to National Library given go-ahead by councillors
|
MAJOR plans for a three-storey extension to the National Library
of Scotland have been approved by councillors in Edinburgh.
The glass-fronted extension will boost storage capacity in the
library by a quarter, which adds about 5,000 items every week to its
archive.
But heritage groups have expressed concern about the alterations
to the B-listed building, on George IV Bridge.
The National Library is Scotland's largest general research
library and the world's leading repository for records of Scotland's
history and culture, including the works of Walter Scott, Robert
Burns and Robert Louis ...
