Taiwanese flock to see Buddha's finger

HUNDREDS of thousands of Taiwanese flocked to glimpse a 2,500- year-old relic believed to be the Buddha's finger at the weekend after it arrived from the mainland on a goodwill tour that Beijing hopes will further the cause of reunification.

Encased in a glittering gold miniature pagoda and surrounded by a bullet-proof crystal case, the finger of Sakyamuni Buddha arrived on Saturday to be greeted by clamorous scenes of devotion.
