Obituary Swedish prince who married commoner and lost his title

COUNT Sigvard Bernadotte, a former Swedish prince who lost his royal title after marrying a commoner more than six decades ago and recently sued to get it back, has died in Stockholm. Bernadotte, who became a well-known industrial designer, was 94.

Sigvard Bernadotte was the second son of King Gustaf VI Adolf, who reigned from 1950 to 1973, and an uncle of the present King Carl XVI Gustaf. But his title and place in the royal succession were removed in 1934 after he insisted on marrying a German commoner, Erika Patzek.
