Romania offers security as reward for NATO place
|
IT IS the end of another long day on the road for Mircea Geoana,
Romania's foreign minister. The formal dinner is over and Mr Geoana
is at the end of the table picking at his desert, selling Romania.
Last year, as chairman of the Organisation for Security and Co-
operation in Europe, Mr Geoana became a tireless salesman of the
continent's loser nations, traversing its messy fringe: Bosnia-
Herzegovina; Macedonia; the feral, breakaway statelets of Russia; the
impoverished Caucasus with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia.
