A COLOMBIAN archbishop who waged an outspoken campaign against violence and corruption paid for his courage at the weekend when he was shot dead outside a church in the city of Cali.

Isaias Duarte Cancino, 63, who had most recently accused congressional candidates of having their campaigns funded by drug money, was shot in an attack by two teenagers who were waiting on a motorcycle outside the Buen Pastor church in a poor area of the city.
