Born: 3 August, 1934, in Angola Died: 22 February, 2002, in Angola, aged 67

JONAS Savimbi, the legendary guerrilla fighter who was killed last week in a gun battle with Angolan government troops, was born in Munhango, a small Angolan town on the 2,000-mile-long Benguela Railway, along which giant double-tender Glasgow-manufactured steam engines hauled copper ingots from the mines of the Belgian Congo and Northern Rhodesia to the Atlantic port of Lobito.
