BUILT in 1962 on the site of the bomb-shattered shell of the medieval original, Basil Spence's Coventry Cathedral quickly came to stand as a metaphor for the hopes of the post-war world. Such was its symbolism that, had Coventry been Spence's only work, his position in Britain's architectural pantheon would surely have been justified. But as a major new exhibition shows, Spence was about much more than a single church. He was hugely prolific.
