Old whaling station in line for watching trips

SCOTLAND'S last operational whaling station is set to become a centre for whale-watching trips.

Planners on the Isle of Harris want to restore the former whaling station at Bunavoneadar. The buildings have been lying unused since the 1950s and are in urgent need of restoration, which could cost up to GBP 300,000.

The plan has been welcomed by conservationists, who believe the whaling station should be restored in order to explain to the public Britain's role in the decimation of whale stocks in the 20th century.
