TWENTY-five years ago, the Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer were married, in a ceremony which seems, in retrospect, to mark the high point of a golden age of royalty. Until then, though scandal and gossip had swirled around the Royal Family, the media still treated it with something approaching respect, accepting its role and observing its traditions as part of the fabric of public life.
