Jordan's assets

WHEN I told friends and colleagues of my impending trip to Jordan,
their responses mostly fell into two camps. There were the concerned
looks - Jordan is in the heart of the Middle East, not the most
politically stable part of the world at the moment. And there were
the envious groans from those who knew of the ancient city of Petra,
a Unesco World Heritage Site.
First things first. Despite sharing its border with Iraq, Israel,
the West Bank, Saudi Arabia and Syria, Jordan is a safe and friendly
