Lottery cash helps save Scotland's last lightship

THE last lightship in Scotland has been given a substantial lottery grant to prevent it from falling into dereliction.

The historic North Carr lightship, which guided Atlantic convoys into the Clyde during the Second World War and was stationed off the Fife coast during peacetime, is currently berthed and rusting away in Victoria Dock in Dundee.

It has now been given a GBP 44,200 grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry out essential maintenance and repairs to its superstructure.

David Kett, spokesman for the Maritime Volunteer Service, which looks after the lightship, said: "We are ...
