IT'S 21 years now since the Museum of Modern Art in New York staged a show of work by Louise Bourgeois and sent the art world's critical establishment into a spin. At the age of 71, it seemed that Bourgeois had sprung fully-formed on to the international art scene. Where, asked the critics, had she been all her life? Well, she had been working. Quietly and unobtrusively creating some of the most emotive and controversial artworks of the 20th century.
