BBC's punishment: Ministers to give licence cash to ITV
|
THE feud between the BBC and government deepened last night after
it emerged ministers want to 'punish' the corporation by taking
around GBP 260m a year in licence money and giving it to ITV.
The plan to 'top-slice' a 10th of the GBP 2.6bn the BBC receives
from licence fee payers will be a central demand when the government
renegotiates the BBC's Royal Charter, which is due to expire in 2006.
Scotland on Sunday's revelations come as the war between the BBC
and the government was stepped up last night.
