NORTH SEA EMBRACES A NEW ERA

WHEN he paid BP GBP 400m for its massive Forties Field, John Crum was banking on new ideas keeping the money as well as the oil flowing from the North Sea. He was not alone.

BP and the other oil majors are moving out, claiming that the cost of extracting the remaining reserves on the scales they require is uneconomic.

It has been left to a new generation of adventurers such as Crum, managing director of US-owned Apache, to take their place, convinced that there is still money to be made.
