Blott appointed as managing director of Herald papers

TIM BLOTT, a regional manager of Newsquest - the UK arm of US media giant Gannett - has been appointed as managing director of the Herald stable of newspapers.

Blott takes over from outgoing SMG publishing chief executive Des Hudson, who stepped down after the 216m pounds sale of the Glasgow titles to Gannett.

Blott, a former journalist, faces a tough task to restore the fortunes of the Herald stable, which has been haemorrhaging readers over the last decade.

Media industry sources believe he has been tasked with cutting costs and selling off non-core businesses, such as the loss-making S1 ...
