ARGENTINA'S military junta came to power in 1976 in a coup that
overthrew the government of Juan Peron's second wife Isabelita.
For the next seven years the country was run by four successive
generals, including Leopoldo Galtieri.
It was his decision to invade the Falkland Islands in 1982 that
spelled the end of the regime.
Galtieri resigned three days after Argentinian forces surrendered
and the following year saw the fall of the junta.
