U.S. Plane Downed in W. Sahara; DC7 Reportedly Hit By Missile; Crew Of 5 Presumed Dead

A DC7 airplane under contract to the Agency for International Development (AID) to spray locusts in Africa crashed in the western Sahara desert yesterday, reportedly after a missile attack. All five crew members were presumed dead.

AID officials here said a second DC7, accompanying the first, was damaged but managed to land at Sidi Ifni in Morocco.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was monitoring the situation to determine if there had been a terrorist attack.
