IT WAS Hannah Arendt who gave us the memorable phrase "the banality of evil", speaking of Adolph Eichmann as he stood trial. It makes an equally apt description of the pugnacious figure, at the Hague war crimes tribunal, of Slobodan Milosevic, a man who unleashed a war that claimed 200,000 lives, yet still maintains he did nothing wrong.
