Doctors' orders: slash drink-drive limit

A DRAMATIC cut in the drink-drive limit will be demanded by Scottish doctors this week in a bid to further reduce road deaths.

Doctors' union the British Medical Association Scotland wants the limit slashed by almost 40 per cent. The new level would mean a driver who had drunk half a pint of beer was potentially at risk of failing a breath test.

The demand is contained in the BMA's manifesto for the 2003 Scottish parliament elections, which covers a wide range of health- related issues.

A key strand of the manifesto is a call for the drink-drive limit of 80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood ...
