Forbidden City: treasures of an emperor Royal Museum, Edinburgh

WALKING into the Royal Museum's latest exhibition is like walking into the Forbidden City itself. Muted lighting, contemporary display cases and information tablets, along with a matt-red colouring, create an atmosphere where, when standing in front of an exhibit, you can forget that there are other people in the room or that you stand in a large, national museum, contained as you are in your own personal pool of light.
