LIFE without e-mail? How will the staff of Liverpool council
survive? Their chief executive, David Henshaw, has decreed that, from
now on, Wednesdays shall be e-mail free.
Henshaw wants his staff to speak to one another - an eccentric
idea that surely cannot catch on. Real communication, he believes, is
missing in the daily ping-pong of minuscule messages. Council
employees are being asked to pick up the telephone instead, or even
engage in face-to-face conversations.
Their perceptive boss has correctly observed that e-mail can
