Johnston Press is basking in a regional climate
|
TIM Bowdler, chief executive of Johnston Press, has good reason to
be feeling pleased with himself. Last week, the 54-year-old oversaw
his company's acquisition of Regional Independent Media, the
publisher of 53 titles, for a cool 560m pounds.
The deal impressed the City and consolidated the Edinburgh
publisher's position as the UK's fourth largest regional publisher,
giving it more titles than any other regional newspaper group in the
UK. For Bowdler, it was the third major deal that Johnston has pulled
off in the last eight years, and perhaps it was also the sweetest.
