DESPITE being extremely dangerous, the chemical contained in the
parcels sent by the Scottish National Liberation Army is one of the
easiest to buy.
Sodium hydroxide, commonly known as caustic soda, can cause
permanent scarring if it comes into contact with skin and can blind
if it comes into contact with the eyes.
In the highly unlikely event of the liquid being drunk it would
almost certainly cause an agonising death.
However, its sale is not restricted and it can be bought from
chemical suppliers easily in pellet form. It can be turned into an
odourless liquid by diluting it in water.
