Delta Pilots Insist Wing Flaps Were Set; Aviators Say They Did Not Follow Rules Exactly Before Dallas Crash

The three pilots who survived the crash of a Delta Air Lines
jetliner here in August acknowledged today that they did not follow
their preflight rulebook to the letter, but insisted they set the
wing flaps before rolling down the runway.
Appearing somber and accompanied by an attorney who objected
occasionally to the line of questioning, the three Boeing 727 pilots
recounted their flight preparation and the crash at the opening day
of a National Transportation Safety Board hearing into the cause of
the accident Aug. 31.
