City climber fails to reach his summit

A CITY climber was forced to abandon his attempt to scale Mount Blanc just a few hundred metres from the summit due to bad weather.

Hubert Wojtyniak, from Granton, said he was bitterly disappointed after blizzard conditions threatened to create an impassable whiteout.

Along with two friends, the 23-year-old had to turn back and give up their dream of reaching the 4800 metre summit of the highest mountain in the Alps.
