Less than two days before Thanksgiving, Giant supermarkets recalled all 10,000 Shady Brook Farms Fresh Whole turkeys sold at Giant stores in the Washington-Baltimore area.

One truckload of the turkeys- 1,800 birds-was shipped improperly and may have spoiled because of "improper refrigeration," said Bob Walsh, vice president of sales and marketing for Rocco Inc., parent company of the Harrisonburg, Va., turkey producer.

Although the spoilage apparently was limited to the single truckload, the producer and the supermarket chain decided to recall all 10,000 of the turkeys because they cannot ...
