Tributes for SNP 'trailblazer'

TRIBUTES were paid today to the political trailblazer and nationalist Douglas Henderson following his death at the age of 71.

Originally from Edinburgh, Mr Henderson joined the SNP at 14 and went on to hold almost every party office at local and national level after he won the East Aberdeenshire seat in 1974.

A cancer battle halted his career in the 1990s but he returned to politics two years ago and was set to stand in the forthcoming Scottish elections for Falkirk East seat.
