North Sea investment set to pump in 15,000 jobs

A NORTH Sea investment boost is expected to create around 15,000 jobs this year, according to the UK Offshore Operators Association (UKOOA).

UKOOA forecast that the number of jobs in the sector would rise to 380,000 in 2006 - up from 365,000 last year and 340,000 the year before - as spending looked set to top GBP 10 billion, from GBP 9.8bn last year.

And Scotland is expected to derive most of the benefit from the jobs upturn, as it accounts for just over 70 per cent of all direct oil jobs and 43 per cent of total oil industry jobs, mainly around Aberdeen and the north-east.
