Hibs fans to snub derby day tribute to Mercer
|
HIBS fans are to snub a tribute to the late Hearts chairman
Wallace Mercer during Saturday's derby match at Tynecastle.
Some of Hibs' 4000-strong travelling support will turn their backs
to the pitch during a minute of applause intended to commemorate Mr
Mercer who died of liver cancer in hospital last week.
Hearts fans today described the protest as disrespectful and Hibs
officials are appealing to fans not to disrupt the tribute.
And the protest comes as police confirm they will beef up security
for the sold-out match. The backlash against Mr Mercer, who was
chairman of Hearts from 1981 ...
