Washington Ballet, In Step; At 12th-Season Opener, New Faces, Bold Strides

The performance by the Washington Ballet at Lisner Auditorium
last night marked not just the start of a new season (its 12th) with
an expectable quotient of new faces, but a series of major new
initiatives that should prove long-lasting boons for the company's
future.
It was assuredly an asset for last night's program that among
these new steps was the acquisition of Bronislava Nijinska's "Les
Noces" ("The Wedding"), a unique and profound landmark in the history
of ballet. There's nothing like a masterpiece to inspire dancers and
