Lothian is hotspot for rare killer bug

THE Lothians was today revealed as the UK hotspot for a rare form of potentially deadly salmonella which has struck across the country.

Figures show that more cases have been confirmed in the Edinburgh area than in any other part of Britain.

Five people so far in the Lothians have been diagnosed as having Salmonella Bareilly.

Dozens of others across Britain have fallen prey to the food poisoning bug this month, including one elderly woman who experts believe may have died as a result of the infection.

Scottish health experts have launched a joint investigation with the Food Standards Agency ...
