Hospital chiefs spend GBP 600,000 on hiring taxis
|
HEALTH chiefs running Edinburgh's main hospitals are spending GBP
600,000 a year on taxis to ferry staff and patients around.
Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust - which runs hospitals
including the new Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, the Western General
Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children - forked out the
cash during the last financial year.
The "vast majority" of the taxis called were used to take patients
home or to transfer them from one hospital to another.
But taxis were also booked to bring on-call staff, including
transplant surgeons, into city hospitals out of hours.
