A CAMPAIGN has been launched to build a statue of Robert Louis Stevenson, one of Capital's greatest literary figures, in New York's famous Central Park.

Edinburgh Lord Provost Eric Milligan kick-started the campaign on a visit to New York during this month's Tartan Day celebrations.

Fans of the man behind Treasure Island are now calling on Mr Milligan to go one step further and install a Stevenson statue in his home city.
