IT'S just two minutes since the metal shutter was raised, at 10am, to herald the start of another day's business at Vittoria, the Italian restaurant on the corner of Brunswick Street and Leith Walk, but already three of the marble-topped tables are occupied.

Businessmen in dark suits gather round one, while at the others early-morning shoppers break for a light brunch.

Arriving slightly earlier than my fellow breakfaster Gary McCormack, the fact that the tables are steadily filling up makes it appear that this is one place in Edinburgh where breakfast is taken very seriously. As a result of ...
