Bacchae, Liquid Room ****

GIVEN that this production is an adaptation of Euripides' classic Greek play of eroticism and temptation, and that it's staged in the Liquid Room - a venue more at home with musical shows than theatrical - one might have the impression that this is the all-singing, all- dancing rock-opera interpretation. Possibly with a soundtrack by Queen.

Fortunately, Edinburgh University Classics Department's version is a much more sober affair, and - despite the contemporary dress and choral dance sequences - one that stays reasonably faithful to the original text. Not that ...
