Bobby dazzler of a year for Kirk

THE Capital's historic Grey-friars Kirk and its famous graveyard attracted record crowds last year, sending the church's income soaring.

Last year, almost 17,500 people visited the 17th-century church just off George IV Bridge which is undergoing a massive facelift costing more than GBP 1 million.

The 48 per cent increase in visitor numbers boosted valuable sales of memorabilia and gifts at the kirk by a massive 72 per cent.

Today, church officials credited the rise in numbers to Doors Open Day in October, new accreditation from VisitScotland and the screening of the Greyfriars Bobby movie ...
