Red alert over worst crossing

A LEVEL crossing in West Lothian where trains pass at up to 150mph every day has been named Scotland's worst for motorists jumping red lights.

A total of 150 offences have been recorded at Kirknewton level crossing since January - an increase of 53 per cent over the same period last year.

The crossing is one of eight in Scotland with a red light camera unit, installed to detect motorists who run the lights.

The sharp increase in offences has sparked safety concerns as the crossing is over the busy Edinburgh-Glasgow line, via Shotts, and the Edinburgh-Carlisle line which carries 150 ...
