Theater; Maugham's Talkative `Wife'

For the first one and a half acts (of three), it actually seems
as if the Washington Stage Guild's production of "The Constant Wife"
is going to deliver the goods.
W. Somerset Maugham's chatty 1926 comedy about the double
standard has not grown old gracefully, but the early stretches are
marked by a certain epigrammatic flair. The Stage Guild set is a
handsome sunken living room in London that the mistress of the house
has just furnished in the latest art deco style. And the performers
are attractive and attractively dressed in 1920s chic.
It certainly doesn't hurt, either, to lead off ...
