MANY Edinburgh activists travelled to London today to lobby
against the unfair trade rules that pollute the world's markets.
Oxfam, Christian Aid, Tearfund, the World Development Movement and
SCIAF are representatives of a widespread concern about the millions
left in misery by unfair trade rules. Something important is going
on.
Those with active sympathies and imaginations used to believe the
Third World needed aid. Charity is a wholesome instinct but it barely
touches the main problems - malignant barriers to trade and
corruption in the elites of the most impoverished nations.
