A Call for Kelp; This Oceanic Plant Protects Plants From Frost

Often in autumn, a light overnight frost comes along in the middle of an extended period of mild daytime temperatures, killing productive plants in a matter of hours and reducing viable harvest time by as much as several weeks. This can be particularly frustrating for the gardener who still has a wealth of produce on tomato vines, pepper shrubs, eggplants and squash bushes.

The gardener does have a recourse, however, and that is to protect tender foliage during periods of anticipated frost. Normally, one thinks of using bedsheets, blankets, newspapers or garden fabrics draped over plants. ...
