A Prophet in his own band
|
CHUCK Prophet has been around for a while. First as the frontman
in Green On Red, a band who pioneered Americana before REM and at one
stage looked to make it as big as their Georgia contemporaries.
Then, after eight albums, they ended and Prophet went solo, again
to enthusiastic predictions that he'd be the next Gram Parsons.
He's still firmly in the cult category, but while not exactly one
of the new alt.country brigade himself - there's too much folk and
rock in his sound - Prophet's songs have been adopted by a number of
