CHURCH TOUR OFFERS TIDBITS OF HISTORY

As Roanoke celebrates its 125th anniversary, residents and visitors are getting a chance to visit both official and nonofficial landmarks.

The city and the Historical Society of Western Virginia are sponsoring a Church Heritage Tour on Saturday.

A pamphlet advertises "Visits to 10 old Roanoke churches, celebrating the diversity of religion and church architecture in Roanoke throughout its history."

Local historian George Kegley and Faye Gilchrist, assistant to City Manager Darlene Burcham, have been working with churches and the historical society to pull the tour together.
