An early morning swerve to avoid a deer.
A turn that went wide and crossed the center line.
A bicycle ride gone terribly wrong.
Each day of the Memorial Day weekend brought a fatal traffic
accident in the Roanoke region, making it the worst holiday weekend
on Western Virginia's roads since 1998, when a July 4 crash in
Buchanan County killed seven people.
"People need to wear seat belts," Virginia State Police Sgt. Bob
Carpentieri lamented Monday.
"The last couple days have been really difficult."
The weekend's death toll stood at eight Monday evening, with
