Iraq Rules Out New York As a Site for Peace Talks
|
Iraqi Foreign Minister Tariq Aziz said today that Iraq would not
agree to New York as the site of peace talks with Iran for security
reasons and because "I cannot go to a town where there is a campaign
against the Arabs."
Although he said there was no connection, Aziz's statement
appeared to reflect Iraq's anger over recent U.S. Senate passage of a
bill that would impose economic sanctions against Iraq to prevent
"genocide" against the minority Kurdish population in northern Iraq
and also the public rebuke from Secretary of State George P. Shultz
over Iraq's alleged use of chemical weapons ...
