Catcher Jose Lopez said he's been focusing on his defense.

But it was his offense that help lifted the Salem Avalanche to its fifth straight win on Friday. Lopez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and drove in three runs as Salem scored a 7-3 Carolina League win over the struggling Frederick Keys at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium.

Eli Iorg homered and drove in two runs and Ryan Reed went 2-for-4 with a homer for the Avalanche.

Salem (25-22) gained a half-game on the Southern Division-leading Kinston Indians, who split a doubleheader with Winston-Salem. The Indians (28-18) are 3 1/2 games ahead of ...
