Kurds Disappoint Iraqi PR Effort; Reporters Taken to Turkish Border to See Returnees, but None Show

The Iraqi government today tried to demonstrate that thousands of
Kurds are returning from Turkey after as many as 80,000 of them fled
across the border to escape an Iraqi Army military onslaught.
But the Kurds failed to show.
Iraq's Ministry of Information airlifted dozens of journalists to
this outpost on the Khabur River, which separates Iraq and Turkey,
and promised that they would witness the return of 1,000 Kurds from
makeshift refugee camps across the Turkish border, where many of the
Iraqi Kurds fled because, they have said, their villages were
attacked with chemical and other ...
