RULE OF LAW IS VIOLATED IF ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS TOLERATED

In response to your Nov. 3 editorial, "Fear and prejudice stir up voters," I take issue with several of your statements.

Considering that illegal immigration is a national crisis, it's entirely appropriate for illegal immigration to have been a campaign issue and, in fact, it was long overdue.

For far too long, our elected officials -- both Democrats and Republicans -- have turned a blind eye to this issue because it suited their political purposes to do so.

The consequence of this failure to act has resulted in the immigration quagmire we have today, and which can no longer be ignored.
