Rebels attacked a passenger boat on the remote southeastern Rama River today and killed two persons and wounded 27, including an American clergyman, according to government and witness reports.

A witness said about a dozen Americans and several Sandinista soldiers were aboard the vessel.

The boat was traveling upstream to the town of Rama after leaving Bluefields, the country's main Caribbean port, when a group of contras began firing weapons at about 4 p.m., the Defense Ministry said.
